Healthy teams at work lead to a greater sense of wellbeing at the workplace, and increased opportunities for connection and collaboration. Professional wellness starts with personal wellness; and personal wellness starts with self leadership.

The Wheel of Health, a proprietary concept by Duke Health & Well-Being (as seen in the second photo) explains the key components of personal wholistic health and well-being anchored on mindful awareness and supported by the community.

I shared these with the staff of IHH HEALTHCARE SINGAPORE recently, during a lunchtime webinar on Wholistic Health and Wellbeing.

I’m very grateful to have been invited by
Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health to share about health coaching, the journey to wholistic health and wellbeing, and how these translate into professional wellness in the workplace. Thank you for the opportunity!

I was joined by both clinicians and non-clinical staff deeply concerned about living well, both from a personal and professional perspective. My sharing brought together my corporate and organisation leadership background, my training as a Duke Health and Wellbeing certified health coach, as well as my personal transformation story.

I am grateful for the growth mindset of the audience, who like me, approach health and wellbeing as a learning journey.

Let’s spark more conversations, insights and action together!

MEeting my younger self for coffee

I met my younger self for coffee at 3 pm.
She was on time.
I barely made it in a mad rush on #mybrompton.
I wore my hair in pigtails under cycling cap and helmet.
Hers was in a tight ponytail – no concerns over balding at 18.
I had my cycling jersey and tights on.
She wore Guess jeans and rose-tinted glasses.

She flashed me the smile that I’m glad I still have.
I tell her to keep smiling and laughing.
The shine on her has now faded on me just a little, thankfully not too much.
I want to tell her that her journey will be quite different from what she imagined then.
But I don’t.
She doesn’t need to hear that the youthful optimism for life she’d just declared
in a romanticism laden commentary published in the local newspaper
will be put to test and challenged over and over again.
She just wants reassurance that I have lived up to her expectations.

We leave the aroma of coffee beans and cake (which she ate and I didn’t).
I walk her home because it’ll be another three decades before she learns to cycle.
We won’t meet again for 35 years.
But each day, she will learn that resilience is not titanium that won’t break,
But rather gold that has learned to be malleable.

Thanks to Mediacorp Pte Ltd for inviting me to join a panel discussion for professional women on stress management and self-care practices for improving overall well-being.

The 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽: 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 was held on 5 December.

It was fun to share my perspective and also very inspiring to be in the good company of my fellow panelists who are both young professionals taking charge of their health and wellbeing!

My key takeaway: your career is a lifelong journey. Be mindful of yourself, your needs, what you want from your career and what gives you a sense of fulfilment and purpose in life. ♥️
